2025 Conference - Welcome Message from the President
Dear Colleagues, Scholars, and Friends of Igbo Studies,
It is with great anticipation and heartfelt enthusiasm that I welcome you to the 2025 Annual Conference of the Igbo Studies Association (ISA), taking place from May 14 to 17, 2025, at Dominican University in River Forest, Chicago, Illinois, USA, and virtually.
This year’s conference theme, “Culture and Human Capital: Opportunities and Challenges,” offers a timely and critical lens through which we examine the intersections of heritage, innovation, and human agency. As our societies continue to evolve under the powerful currents of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and global mobility, we are called to reflect on how cultural capital can serve as both a resource and a responsibility.
Through paper presentations, panel discussions, artistic expressions, and scholarly dialogue, we will explore how culture not only shapes identity and knowledge but also catalyzes growth, innovation, and resilience in the face of new global realities. This year’s hybrid format ensures that scholars from around the world, whether joining in person or online, can meaningfully participate and contribute to the expansion of Igbo scholarship.
I invite you to download the event program and list of accepted papers at the following link and join us in what promises to be an intellectually rich, inspiring, and collaborative experience: https://repo.igbostudies.org/conference/2025-program.pdf
On behalf of the ISA Executive and Conference Planning Committee, I extend my gratitude to all who submitted abstracts, and to our conference chair, Dr. Chijioke Azuawusiefe, for his leadership and commitment.
We look forward to welcoming you to Chicago, or seeing you online, as we deepen our collective exploration of culture as human capital and expand the frontiers of Igbo studies together.
Sincerely,
Chidi Igwe, PhD
President
Igbo Studies Association (ISA)
