The Igbo Studies Association is pleased to introduce ISA Scholars, a new online initiative designed to showcase the people, research, publications, teaching, and professional contributions that make ISA a vibrant intellectual community.

For many years, ISA has brought together scholars, students, writers, artists, community leaders, and professionals whose work advances the study of Igbo history, language, literature, culture, society, politics, gender, religion, diaspora, and contemporary life. Yet much of this work remains scattered across universities, personal websites, journals, conference programs, social media pages, and institutional profiles. ISA Scholars was created to bring this work into one visible and searchable space.

Through ISA Scholars, members can create individual scholar pages where they can present their academic and professional profiles, list publications, share research interests, highlight current projects, add conference presentations, and make their work more discoverable to colleagues, students, institutions, journalists, collaborators, and the wider public.

This initiative is part of ISA’s broader digital renewal. Alongside the electronic release of Igbo Studies Review, the relaunch of the ISA electronic newsletter, the improved conference and membership systems, and the development of a stronger online publishing platform, ISA Scholars will help build a more connected and visible digital home for Igbo Studies.

The success of ISA Scholars depends on member participation. We encourage all ISA members, presenters, graduate students, independent researchers, writers, cultural workers, and professionals connected to Igbo Studies to create their accounts and build their scholar pages. The more members participate, the stronger and more useful the directory becomes.

A completed ISA Scholar page can help members:

  • increase the visibility of their research and publications;
  • make their work easier to find online;
  • connect with scholars working in similar areas;
  • support collaboration across institutions and countries;
  • document their contributions to Igbo Studies;
  • promote books, articles, conference papers, and public scholarship;
  • strengthen ISA’s collective profile as a global scholarly association.

This is especially important for emerging scholars and graduate students who are building their academic presence. It is also useful for established scholars whose work deserves a more centralized and accessible public profile. By bringing our members together in one digital space, ISA Scholars helps tell the story of Igbo Studies as a living, growing, and globally connected field.

Members are encouraged to upload a professional photo and provide a clear biography of 100–250 words. Publications, books, journal articles, edited volumes, conference papers, creative works, and public scholarship may also be added.

What to Include on Your Scholar Page

A strong ISA Scholar page may include:

Name
Institution or affiliation
Country/location
Research interests
Short biography
Profile photo
Publications
Books and journal articles
Conference presentations
Current research projects
Personal website
ORCID, Google Scholar, Academia, ResearchGate, LinkedIn, or other links
Contact information, if desired

Members do not need to complete everything at once. You can begin with a short profile and update it over time.

Why Your Participation Matters

ISA Scholars is more than a directory. It is a collective visibility project. Every profile strengthens the Association’s online presence and helps demonstrate the depth, diversity, and reach of Igbo Studies scholarship.

When members create their pages, ISA can better showcase the work being done across disciplines and across borders. The platform will help students find mentors, scholars find collaborators, readers discover publications, and institutions recognize the strength of the ISA community.

We invite all members to take ownership of this initiative. Create your scholar page. Update your profile. Share your work. Encourage colleagues and students to participate.

Together, we can make ISA Scholars a major resource for Igbo Studies and a powerful platform for promoting the intellectual labour of our members.
